About Río Dulce

Río Dulce is the town at the long road bridge where the Río Dulce leaves Lake Izabal, Guatemala's largest lake, on its way to the Caribbean. Close by, the Castillo de San Felipe de Lara is a Spanish colonial fort built to keep pirates out of the lake.

Boats run from the town down the river and through its forested gorge to Livingston on the coast. Many stays are lodges and hotels on the water, reached by boat, and sailing yachts shelter in the marinas along the river.
