About El Paredón

El Paredón Buena Vista is a small fishing village on Guatemala's Pacific coast, in the department of Escuintla, next to Sipacate. Its long beach of black volcanic sand faces the open ocean, and its waves have made it a surf destination.

Nearby, the Sipacate-Naranjo National Park protects mangrove channels and lagoons that you can explore by kayak or paddleboard. Like the rest of Guatemala's Pacific shore, the beach is a nesting ground for the olive ridley sea turtle.

The village is about two to two and a half hours by road from Antigua or Guatemala City, through Escuintla and along the coastal road toward Sipacate, and shared shuttles run daily from Antigua. Most stays are surf hostels, lodges and small beach hotels. The surf and the currents are strong, so ask locally before you swim.
